Forklift Tires
There are two types of tires which could be used on forklifts: press on and standard. Normally, press on tires are used on electric forklifts and those kinds of forklifts operating in indoor applications such as warehouses. The press on tires can be used also in light industrial operation as well.
Surfaces that are rough or uneven require more traction and tougher tires. Therefore, standard tires are normally utilized. Then again, they are generally utilized on forklifts which operate in outdoor settings.
As there are many various kinds of forklifts, there are also a lot of different types of forklift tires. The types of tires which are most commonly utilized are polyurethane, pneumatic and solid. The kind of tires are dictated by what and where the forklift is utilized for. It is vital to obtain the correct tires for the job and making certain that the proper choice would have a big impact on both performance and safety.
For outdoor forklifts which need to operate in an all-terrain atmosphere such as on a construction site, the best option would be pneumatic tires. These are made of tough rubber and then filled with air, like a tractor or truck tire. Pneumatic tires create an air cushion between the forklift and the terrain. This particular design considerably lessens the wear and tear on the machinery and creates a very comfortable ride for the operator. The tire's thick, deep treads provide the necessary traction needed for use on rough and uneven surfaces.
Solid tires are best suited for both light industrial outdoor and indoor use. They are made out of constructed solid, tough rubber. This helps them to stay safer from blowouts, popping like pneumatic tires or damage because of puncture wounds. Since these tires are not filled with air, they are unable to provide the cushion effect. This fact makes them not suitable for use on rough terrain. Several solid tires are constructed with holes in the sidewalls to provide a somewhat softer ride. The only problem is that this kind of construction makes the forklift's load carrying capacity less.
The polyurethane forklift tires will usually outlast both of the rubber tire designs but are intended for indoor warehouse applications only. The load capacity of polyurethane is much higher than that of a rubber tire. These tires work great with well with electric forklifts due to the additional weight of the machine's batteries. Due to the tire's lower rolling resistance, another benefit of this particular type of tire is the extended battery life.
