Lift trucks, when utilized in indoor operations, are usually operated on cushioned tires which are made out of solid rubber. The pneumatic type of tires is the ideal alternative for outdoor operations. Pneumatic tires could be used on asphalt surfaces and on dirt roads and are common for heavy loads.

For the most part, propane powered equipment is trusted to be safe. Propane has the reputation for being a clean burning fuel source. If the machine or engine is not properly maintained or tuned, then the propane powered engine could produce carbon monoxide or CO, along with other corrosive oxides of nitrogen. Any internal engine that is not in optional working form can result in a similar situation. These emitted gases can be very noxious within incorrectly ventilated or confined spaces.

Compared to gasoline and diesel powered forklifts, propane models produce less harmful gases. Propane has a simple chemical structure. As it is a gas, propane burns at a low temperature and mixes well with air, compared to gasoline or diesel. Corrosive oxides of nitrogen produced during propane combustion in the engine are less compared to those produced by a diesel or gas engine. Thus, the engine of a propane forklift typically lasts much longer than a gasoline or diesel powered lift truck model.

IC engines work by sucking in air from the surrounding area. This air reacts with the fuel causing it to burn. A 60 horse-power lift truck should breath in 5000 cubic feet of air for every minute in order to operate. Before operation, it is recommended to switch on a propane forklift outside and let it warm up for a bit. This is due to the carbon monoxide emissions since they read higher from a cold propane-powered engine or equipment and become less potent once the machinery has had a chance to warm up.

It is vital to note that battery powered or electric forklifts could not be utilized outdoors in the rain for fear of battery damage if they get wet. A dangerous situation can happen as an electric forklift could short out because of rainwater getting in.

Propane forklifts however work well in the rain. The propane is stored in sealed tanks that are positioned on the rear of the lift truck. This means there is no chance of a rainstorm interrupting an operator's work. Propane lift trucks are extremely versatile and could be used both indoors and outdoors. Diesel and gasoline powered lift trucks can suffocate you accidentally with dangerous gases if they are utilized indoors. A well maintained and properly tuned up lift truck is really a good way to handle your loads in an effective and safe way.
